Wellspring

Hiya y’all;

I’ve been working with Wellspring cancer support centre for a while now trying to organise an ‘age specific’ cancer support group for those of us under 45. There is now a pilot project in Toronto doing this very thing :) .

The London/Stratford chapter of Wellspring has also offered its facilities for any Young adult cancer survivor to make use of and there are great resources there!

* Library

* Reiki

* Yoga

* Meditation time

* Meeting rooms

* Drop in and just hang out

I’d like to align this group with Wellspring as they have great resources and also need our support. I also can’t do it all on my own! I go to Wellspring on a regular basis and they are a fab organisation!

I have to focus my energy on my Film project as well as my other ‘life pursuits’ so I’m shifting the purpose of this Blog to my ‘cancer activism’.

Our group can still meet up and get together, but I’d like to do it all through Wellspring now :) .

Take care everyone and cancer be damned!

Young Adult cancer Canada (YACC) has added us to their list of Community Links as a resource for Young adults with cancer.

We are happy to work with them to help those of us aged 18-45 dealing with this cancer shit find the support and resources we need :) .

Tea Time :) This Friday 6 May

Got cancer? Under 45? Want to meet up with others who “get it”? Then come out to our ‘Tea Time’ (or coffee time if that’s your pleasure ;) ) this Friday, 6 May at Starbucks in N. London at Wonderland Rd. N and Fanshawe Rd. W.

It’s just a nice time to chill out and meet up with other cancer survivors and say ‘cancer be damned; we’re going to have fun anyway.

6pm til they boot us out ;) .

Hope to see you there!

~Tara :)

I am currently working on a short film project about the ‘dark side’ of Young adult cancer survivorship.

Stories and thoughts from YA cancer survivors who want to show the hardships of surviving or dealing with cancer at a young age and the rage accompanying the fight.

Survivorship is supposed to be all about getting back to living, being “positive” and “strong” and if you survived cancer, you’re supposed to be all happy and back to “normal”?? After all, you’re in remission, you’re young and you can get back to living! So what happens if you’re not…….?

Anyone who wants to submit their story, please let me know!

Website can be seen at:

http://www.siegconsulting.com/Smotheredhope

It’s all a work in progress; happening organically, and I may be doing it all alone, but it’s a side of the ‘cancer story’ I feel needs to be told..

This is the Blog page for my NEW Young adult (18-45) cancer support Group in Stratford Canada.

A way for young adults to meet up, have fun with others of our own age who ‘get it’!

Cancer be damned!

Stay tuned…………
